Animal and bird sounds in English and Romanian. My retelling of The Impudent Rooster. FROM WRITER TO READER: HOW A BOOK IS MADE - How many people are there between writer and reader?
Program includes: How I became an author. How The Impudent Rooster was made, with drafts and illustrations in different stages (tailored for the audience). What are some of your favorite big words? What is the best place and way to write? My retelling of The Impudent Rooster. A line up of all the people (14) who take a book from writer to reader: everyone has a sign and a prop to represent what they do. Questions and answers.

SECRETS OF THE IMPUDENT ROOSTER - Get the full scoop!
Program includes: Introduction. A reading of The Impudent Rooster. How The Impudent Rooster was made, with drafts and illustrations in different stages. Stories about how different aspects of The Impudent Rooster, from text to illustrations, came to be as they are. How an author works with an editor and an illustrator with an art director. (I interviewed Holly Berry, the illustrator for The Impudent Rooster, for her secrets.) Questions and answers.

STORYTELLING - Stories--the best!
Program includes: Stories from around the world--if wished, with an emphasis on cultures represented in your school or community. The Impudent Rooster can be one of the stories!

STORYTELLING PLUS - Stories--even better!
Program includes: Same as above–plus a bit of teaching on storytelling!  The different kinds of stories and their purpose, how to select a story, how to learn stories, how to prepare for storytelling.

STORYTELLING and POETRY (new program) - Sabina's favorites!
Program includes: Some of my favorite stories and poems!

SABINA, IMMIGRANT (new program) - What was it really like?
Program includes: What was it like to come to the United States at the age of 10?  Why did we leave Romania?  What did I miss most, and what was the hardest thing about leaving Romania? About arriving in the United States?  What was Romania like?  Have I been back since?  What does Romanian sound like?  I bring significant personal artifacts and photographs, and talk openly of my immigrant experience.

SHAPING A STORY - How does a writer come up with a story? Now you can, too!
Program includes: What are some of your favorite stories and books? What makes a good story? We explore components such as character, plot, setting, conflict, and list them on a blackboard. We also consider grammar and vocabulary. During the course of the program, and based on our discussion, we can write a brief story together or come up with ideas for individual stories to be developed later by students in their classrooms.

POETRY WRITING WORKSHOPS (new program)
Program includes: Why do we need poetry?  Why write it?  Where do you get ideas?  Learn about the elements of poetry (the tools available to us), be inspired by poems by famous poets and Sabina, and write poems based on prompts.  Then share your poem or hear others’ poems, based on the time available.

ART CLASS - You can be an illustrator!
Program includes: Hear The Impudent Rooster and see how the illustrations for the book came together (includes information/materials from illustrator Holly Berry). Then create your own drawings using Romanian folk art sources like those that inspired the book's illustrations.

POUCH CRAFT - What will you keep in your pouch?
Program includes: Hear The Impudent Rooster, then make your very own simple pouch designed by illustrator Holly Berry.  (Supplies fee applies.)
